I have known John in a professional capacity for the last 12 months. John worked with me during a transformational time for our organisation in a contract role as Senior Business Analyst on two key projects. The first of these was gathering the requirements for a new patient administration system for a service within the organisation that has specific compliance needs within the Private Hospitals management framework in Australia. The second project was again gathering the requirements for an enterprise-wide NDIS solution. This was particularly challenging given the ever changing landscape within this new system. Both projects were complex and needed a mature hand to guide the multiple stakeholders involved. Central to the success of these pieces of work were John’s high level analytical skills and his consummate professionalism. Above all else, John is a pleasure to work with and I sincerely hope I get the chance to do so again soon.

Our project involved, investigating telehealth options in a remote community to deliver education and/or clinical services. John’s wide experience in community health services, plus his understanding of remote IT problems along with skills in research were valuable in achieving the outcome we wanted. John demonstrated his cultural awareness and understanding of the sensitive service provision that was required. Thank you John.

John was responsible for training me and other Practice Managers in the use of Ardentia, Oberoi and CHART – a series of computer programmes designed to help us manage data within our practices. I found him to be an outstanding trainer. He explained everything well and in words I could understand, which is not always the case with computer training! His written instructions (given as a handout during the training sessions) were clear and concise. He has an air of calm professionalism which helped to make the whole training process go well.

Whilst working with the Health Authority in our area, John visited our practice on several occasions to install software for various projects and to help with staff training and the analysis of data. At all times he was extremely helpful, his professional knowledge and expertise were excellent and he was a very patient trainer, frequently having to work with staff whose IT skills were minimal. He responded very promptly to queries and to requests for further visits. I would be happy to recommend John as a Consultant to support data work in General Practice.

I have known John for a number of years. During that time, he would visit the practice either in his capacity as a Trainer (bringing new computer programmes and concepts to the practices), as the organisation lead in new computer/data projects or in his capacity as data analyst. During the time that I have known him, he has always acted in a courteous, considerate and professional manner – making a difficult subject easier to understand. There were times when his task was to introduce new IT/data collection projects from the Primary Care Organisation which practices sometimes felt were being imposed. This was always done with tact and understanding – never expecting too much of those whose knowledge was obviously far more limited than his own – but leaving us having completed his task and having done a good job.

John has been working on several clinical software projects for a Primary Care Trust. Each of these have required John to collect and analyse very large amounts of disparate data (of variable quality) into meaningful tools to enable General Practice staff to gain some insight into their usage of secondary care services and to identify ways in which savings could be made. This has required important personal attributes:· Personal charm has enabled him to gain access to information or understanding held by people, which, used alongside raw data, gives a more complete picture.· He is reliable and trustworthy; he never lets down or disappoints· He is honest, reliable and has integrity· He emits a quiet confidence that is reassuring to those learning new skills· He teaches, trains and develops people in a gentle and caring way, with apparently limitless patience.· He has a quiet, thoughtful and unassuming bearing.John and I were part of a team working with the Primary Care Trust and The Improvement Foundation (IF) to develop methodology and pathways for Practice Based Commissioning. He was a true asset to our team, offering sophisticated solutions. He then worked with our eight rural-practice PBC Group in preparing and presenting data to support our PBC bids. He trained us each as far as we wished to go in finding significant data (from Ardentia) for ourselves. His handy hints to help us to know where to look to find relevant information were invaluable and advantaged us in working with data and reports. He made suggestions to the Primary Care Trust on many occasions as to how data could/should be collected and used in more sophisticated ways, and the information we use now is John’s legacy to us.John next worked with us on CHART and PRMIS programmes that enable us to extract data from our clinical computer systems for verification and statistical purposes. Once again his quiet, methodical approach was appreciated by all those who were lucky enough to be trained by him. John was selected by the PCT to load onto the PCs in Primary Care the Oberoi Risk Assessment Tool (a set of queries that run on our clinical system to report CHD risk scores and risk factors. These can be used interactively with the patient.) He also gave as much training to staff as was required. Once again he made the process pleasurable to engage with, simple to understand wasreadily available for support. His written instructions were always carefully constructed and simple to follow.

I have known John for several years. He attended the practice in his roles as the Primary Care Trust lead in new computer and data projects and also as a trainer in these matters. He brought us new computer programmes and initiatives in the capacity of data analyst.During his visits to the practice he always acted in a courteous and considerate manner to all members of our practice team. In his own professional way he made sometimes difficult, or dare I say heavy, subjects easier to understand. His work was always carried out with tact and in a good humoured way and he was always willing to revisit the practice, or offer advice over the telephone, to those of us who are not as computer literate as himself. Projects that had been instigated by higher authorities often gained clarity and meaning after John’s visits leaving us with a sense of achievement.
